OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH AND SAFETY MANAGEMENT SYSTEM
(International Standard: ISO 45001:2018)
According to incomplete reports from 63 Departments of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs in 2015, there were 629 fatal occupational accidents in labor-related sectors across the country. Therefore, ensuring occupational safety for workers and minimizing human casualties as well as the cost of compensation for employers is critical. Globally, according to statistics from the International Labour Organization (ILO), in 2013, 2.34 million people died due to work-related activities. The majority (2 million people) died from health issues rather than injuries. The Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH) estimates that approximately 660,000 deaths annually are due to cancers caused by occupational activities.
In 1999, the OHSAS 18001 standard was first issued to provide management approaches for occupational health and safety. However, according to domestic certification bodies, the number of organizations implementing and being certified to this standard in Vietnam remains very limited. To promote the application of advanced management methods in line with international standards, the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) issued ISO 45001:2015 to help organizations manage OH&S risks and improve OH&S performance. Adopting this standard is a strategic decision that supports sustainable development, ensures safer and healthier workplaces, and enhances organizational profitability.
