1. What is conformity certification or product certification conforming to Vietnamese Standards (TCVN)?

Conformity certification, also known as product certification conforming to Vietnamese Standards (TCVN), is the process of evaluating products and quality assurance systems against relevant standards to reach a conclusion.

4. Certification process

First, check if the product has a national standard. If yes, guide customers to apply the national standard. Since national standards only specify general requirements, many new products do not yet have national standards. In this case, advise customers to develop a basic standard, requiring technical specifications and sample products for inspection and testing to establish the basic standard.

There are 8 methods to assess product conformity to standards:

• Method 1: Testing of typical samples;

• Method 2: Testing of typical samples combined with production process evaluation and monitoring through testing samples taken from the market;

• Method 3: Testing of typical samples combined with production process evaluation; monitoring through testing samples taken at the production site combined with production process evaluation;

• Method 4: Testing of typical samples and production process evaluation; monitoring through testing samples taken at the production site and the market combined with production process evaluation;

• Method 5: Testing of typical samples and production process evaluation; monitoring through testing samples taken at the production site or the market combined with production process evaluation;

• Method 6: Evaluation and monitoring of management systems;

• Method 7: Testing and evaluation of product batches;

• Method 8: Testing or inspection of entire product lots.

For domestically manufactured products, evaluation usually uses Method 5, while imported products use Method 7. For imported products with large quantities, where batch-by-batch evaluation causes high costs, in addition to batch testing and evaluation, source evaluation can be conducted (i.e., sending an evaluation team to the production site to issue a certificate of registration at the source).
